Alpe D'Huez Skiing

The good thing about making a Serre Chevalier ski season pass is that it includes some just days thrown in for free at stations nearby. It Puy St Vincent, Galaxy, holding Montgeneve in France across the border in Oulx in Italy and offers 400 km of slopes and Alpe d'Huez.

This season, I went with another season pass holder Alpe D'Huez, some 55 kilometers from the Serre Che road to Grenoble. In fact, I prefer Serre Che, probably because I know so well, but there is much to recommend at least one visit a day at Alpe d'Huez, although to an extent that outside the station a kind of orientation or familiarization training It might be a good idea.

There are almost exactly the same length track as Serre Che, 250 km, but look a little closer and because of the cabin / Cable setup does not feel as connected. Skis to the cable car, skis again and a short runway with an elevator, then down and in a cable car largest were again reversed - too much faff. Serre Che allows you to attach your skis and keep them until you want a hot wine or the end of the day. Maybe it's a small point, but I'll take it.

The complexes are a bit ugly, it makes little village charm, but it is aesthetic, so do not push yourself. On the plus side, you feel like you are under a sky much larger Serre Che, a vast expanse of blue o'erhead trades and seemingly endless in all directions - spectacular in short, feels part of the heavens and 3000 m + is you.

When we visited Alpe D'Huez, the 'Island of the Sun "on the track of his cards is called the sun had done something and went ice conditions at the top, a large soft moguls and sleet with big rocks come through, giving fear for my skis, which were not as severely scratched as I feared. I will not list them as positive or negative, is what it is and changing conditions are expected. However, the snow, while under the same sun in Serre Che is better, slopes facing north do much to protect and extend the life of the snow.

Alpe D'Huez longest downhill in the world, 17 km of tracks, has started as a black, a pair of potholes walls, then a tedious chunter toward the elevators. Nice to have, but it will not buy the shirt.

There are certainly more life to the Alpe d'Huez in Serre Chevalier, many bars, many people - being much closer to Grenoble which means that many people can easily go down. I imagine it would be Choker block during the holidays, push the cable car at the turnstiles was quite annoying in a fairly quiet day as it was.

I see lovers of the countryside would Alpe D'Huez, there is tons to do, but probably only for experts. Very few tree skiing if that's your thing, something more in Serre Che, being generally lower, but it is a matter of taste.

Overall I would say that I prefer Serre Che, but I will certainly return to Alpe D'Huez to see if understanding brings a greater appreciation of an impressive complex of high altitude.
